Habitat and Range:

Day geckos are found in Madagascar and nearby islands. They live in warm areas, especially in trees where they can climb and hide. They are found in rainforests. They prefer high, humid places with lots of vegetation and sunlight, which helps them stay active during the day.  They should be kept in long confinement similar to their natural environment. These lizards present different aspects. Baby geckos can be housed in groups of up to five in a 20-gallon tank. Their adult children should be kept alone as they can fight each other if kept together.

Behaviour:

Day geckos are awake and alert during the day and, like other lizards, their skin is very delicate, so it’s best not to touch or handle them too much. Because it can put pressure on them, and if they feel scared, they can drop their tails to protect themselves. The tail will return but it is better to avoid it. If they are too scared, they may bite, but this is their last option. Males are very territorial so day geckos should be kept alone. If they are a couple, sometimes they can fight and need to be separated. This lizard has tiny hairs on its toes that help it stick to almost any surface, even glass walls and ceilings.

Breeding Process:

If you keep males and females together, they may breed, you don’t need to do anything to encourage it. As long as he is healthy this will happen naturally. You need to consider whether you want this to happen. An attractive female must have easy access to the nest box to lay her eggs. The box in which she lays her eggs should be large enough for her to move around easily.

Inside the nest food, we use a clay mixture that is kept moist enough to retain its shape. The soil should not be wet enough to saturate the eggs. We will keep the eggs in a place where there is moisture. And will keep a place where the cell is closed. After about 60 days, the eggs will start hatching.

Housing for Day Gecko:

Enclosure :

The gecko enclosure should be long and wide and made of glass so we can see the gecko and keep humidity in. It should be properly arranged to convey the air. This chipmunk likes to climb so add branches and vines to climb and explore. Add a hiding place to make the lizard feel safe. Also, provide fresh water to drink. Keep the wall humidity between 50 and 70.

Substrate :

Forest floor and Eco Earth are good for keeping the tank moist which is what the day gecko needs.  You can add Zoo Med’s New Zealand Sphagnum Moss, Terrarium Moss, or Frog Moss on top for extra moisture. Baby Giant Day Geckos should not be on loose substrates. Eco Carpet™ is the safest and cleanest choice for them.

Humidity :

Geckos need high humidity, for example between 60 and 80. A humidifier may be used to check their level .. Live plants and soil help keep the wall moist with regular watering. Its area should be sprayed daily. Greater geckos should have a humidity range between 40% and 75%. Use a digital moisture gauge to check the humidity. A digital moisture gauge will detect the amount of moisture. Spray water on the walls with a pump in the morning and evening to increase humidity

Heating and Temperature:

Day geckos need a warm place to stay healthy because they come from a warm place. Temperature during the day 80-85°F Place between them  85-90°F gives a warm place around. Temperature at night 70-75°F. Always use a thermometer to check the temperature. Use heat bulbs such as Daylight Blue or Bisquent Spot Lamps for daytime heat. Use a night light or red heat lamp for nighttime or daytime heat.

UVB Lighting and Day-Night Cycle :

Day geckos need UVB light to stay healthy. UVB light was once considered unnecessary, but now we know it’s important to use it. UVB lamps work for about 12 to 9 inches and are replaced every 6 months. The UVB light needs to be replaced once a year. Keep this light on for 10 to 12 hours and turn it off at night so that the chipmunk can rest.

Water :

Always use fresh water for your gecko Provide a water dish with fresh water such as using a water conditioner to remove harmful chemicals. This lizard likes to drink water from the top of the leaves. Keep the terrarium humidity between 65 and 70 percent. To maintain the humidity level we have to create a natural setup which we can help by using a waterfall kit or Repti Rapids LED waterfall.

Food and Diet:

Day geckos mainly eat insects such as roaches, silkworms, waxworms, and butterflies. Large geckos should be fed three to five insects twice a week. Young geckos and breeding females need about five to seven more meals a week.
